On Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th May, Alice Fletcher, Alison Lewis, Kelly Blumberg, Gemma Horton, Adam Shaw and I headed out to the Netherlands for a two day trip to visit Alldra. We were lucky enough to go and visit the old factory to see the damage from the fire which took place back on 20th May 2016; this allowed us an insight into the improvements and amazing job the team in Alldra have done to build up the new, very modern factory in just over a year and get back up and running.
We spent the morning with Coen Louwerse the Managing Director, where he gave us an overview of the company and an introduction to their product range. This was extremely insightful and helped us understand how they can help us and we can help them. After this, we split into two groups, one group went down to the NPD kitchen with Kemal Durmusoglu, who showed us the effects different products can have on the way Alldras products perform, this again was useful for us to find out what products we can use for what customers. Then the fun part came where we got to decorate doughnuts, cakes, biscuits etc. to test what works well in what application. Gemma had a great time and managed to eat most of her creations; Adam struggled on the creative side but again enjoyed indulging in his masterpieces.
The girls stuck with the current trends of Unicorns and Flamingos and designed their cakes accordingly, Kelly focused on the Unicorn trend leaving Alison to take on the Flamingo trend.
After the kitchen fun Coen gave us a factory tour where we were lucky enough to see the production in full swing, giving us further understanding of how the products are made and why they perform the way they do.
The day then ended on a QA presentation and an overview of our working relationship with Alldra and how we wish this to carry on in the future.
