On Monday 22nd May, Alice Fletcher, Alison Lewis, Sarah Wylde and I headed out to Oslo in Norway for a 2 day Young Professionals event organised by Orkla Foods. As the only Brits, and having only been acquired by Orkla Foods a few weeks prior to us attending, I could sense we were all a little nervous as we walked in.
The 2 day networking event was focused around change and relevance, with numerous talks from employees in different areas of the Orkla business. Each speaker gave us an insight to their career journeys; and it was a great to learn both about the business, as well as how people have progressed within the Orkla as opportunities have arisen, often making their own pathway.
The presentations were broken up with a number of team building games, which were great fun and soon made us feel at ease with our new colleagues. Everyone who attended made us feel extremely welcome, really highlighting the fantastic culture Orkla have within their businesses. Watching Sarah having to sit on four balloons for one minute, without the balloons breaking was a memory which will stick with me for a long time!
The second day tested everyone’s negotiation skills, trust, team work, competitiveness and confidence as we embarked on our final team game. The mission was to gain the most credits, whilst being voted the most trustworthy team – a challenge which really made you become aware of how you are perceived by others, especially in a business sense.
As well as being a great networking opportunity, the 2 days really grew our personal confidence and self-awareness, which is something we have brought back with us and will continue to develop. We had a great few days, and really appreciate the opportunity to have attended such a fantastic event.
